Oct 11–14, Lake District.
For an elaborate trip planner like me, this holiday was going to be an exception, since the inception. I knew I had to rein in my innate desire to gloss over the myriad sightseeing options 🕵️♂️ & juxtapose the touristy vs local bits 🔍 . In the end, I have to admit, I managed to craft a fruitful itinerary without overly s̶t̶r̶e̶t̶c̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ stressing myself 😅😮💨
Oct 11
Keeping with the overall vibe of this trip, the train journey 🚊 from London to Windermere was at a comfortable departure time of 9:30am morning on a weekday [Tuesday]. Comfortable, because we assumed that not a lot of people would be going to a touristic region like Lake District in mid October on a Tuesday! We met with our first stroke of good fortune very early in the trip. Upon reaching the London Euston station 🚉 at 9am we were surprised (& ☹️ ) to find that the 9:30 am Avanti West Coast train 🚂 to Preston was canceled. But to our advantage, the 9:10 am train did reach Preston and if we run for it we could make it. Since the doctor ordered, run🏃♀️🏃♂️ we did!
Learning 🧠 -
1. Being 30min prior to scheduled departure was key.
2. Enquiring about the upcoming departure proactively was important.After-thought 💭
Why didn't Avanti West Coast notify us of the cancellation? 🤔
