Ever since I boarded the EV train by showing irrational exuberance and buying $TSLA, I’ve started digging up on this sector. Here’s what I think most people should know about EVs — this includes a few basic concepts and brands to familiarize yourself.
Types of Electric Vehicles
BEVs
- Full-electric, rechargeable battery, no gasoline engine
- Classification
- L1 120v standard household outlet [home]
- L2: 240v station [workplace, public charging station]
- L3 or DC fast charging
Plug-in Hybrid EVs
- gasoline engine powered with large battery that can be recharged with external power source
- recharge battery through regenerative braking & plugging-in
- “if you can plug it in and also fill it up, then its plug-in hybrid”
Hybrid EVs
- 100% gasoline fueled
- engine powered by both gasoline and electricity
